Those Who Came Before…

by Jeannie Ruesch

Since it’s the week of Thanksgiving and I’m still recovering from a neck injury (shh, I’m not supposed to be on my computer at all), I thought I’d focus today’s post on being grateful.  Specifically, being grateful for those in the writing industry who have taught me, helped me, or shared their experiences.

In this world, there is always someone who came before you… and you, as a writer, have taken steps before someone else.  A friend of mine, a fellow writer still working to be published, told me that I inspired her.  It really made me think– it made me see how big of a continuous cycle the writing world is.  No matter where you are on the merry-go-round, just getting on for the first ride, getting off after plenty of them or somewhere in the middle, you have something to share.  You can help others as much as they help you along the way.

Along the way to this particular stop on the merry-go-round for me,  there have been so many others who have helped me to get here.  Some just by writing the amazing books they do, that allow me to learn from them.  Others from giving generously of their time to teach workshops, writing articles, sharing their insight–all of which allows me to learn.  And friends, all across the board, who support, who understand and are somewhere on this merry-go-round with me.   In all my years in business, working in different companies, I’ve never been part of such a supportive, truly hopeful group as those in the publishing world.

So I’m cutting this short (because I really DO want my injury to get better) but I leave this with my thanks to you – those who read, comment and support our blog.  Those who might learn from us, those who teach us.  You all inspire me, and I’m grateful to be a part of this world.  Happy Thanksgiving.

And Thank you Jeannie. When I first published I considered blogging and asked around to see if others thought it was an effective promotion tool. Not so much.. Of course I was asking if it was time effective to do one for myself. Anyway I decided it wasn’t. About a year later you posted a request for participants in the Happy Endings community.

I’m confessing that I checked the blog and your website and was impressed with the quality of both sites. It was also apparent you had great management/organization skills. I shamelessly decided that I could learn a lot from you so requested to join the Happy Endings community. And, I have never been sorry, quite the contrary it’s been an amazing experience and has far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend to other authors to join a community. Do I sell books, I don’t think so but I’ve learned so much from reading the articles. They make me think and it takes the solitary out of writing.

So I’m thankful for Happy Endings, the authors who post and you Jeannie who gives so much back.

Oh, ditto what Lavada said! You take care of yourself, Jeannie. Neck injuries are not to be trifled with!

Thank you for giving us a wonderful place to express our views, to teach, learn, and share.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
