Clearing the Obstacles

by Jeannie Ruesch

More exciting news to share. I've received another request from an agent!  The current tally for Something About Her:

Queries sent: 15 | Requests (partials): 2 | Rejections: 4

What excites me most is that both agencies that requested are incredibly reputable and in the top five of my "most wanted" agents!  I'm over the moon about this theoretical wall I've managed to hurdle.  I feel as if I scrambled my way over a massive brick wall , and I can see the green, lush, difficult, open-ended landscape.  Plenty of valleys, plenty of mountains to climb to get through it all, but it's such a beautiful sight.  And I've made it this far.

This post is dedicated to Brenda Novak , who told me today that we've chosen a difficult career path and every cleared obstacle deserves to be celebrated.  So I'm doing a happy dance for this obstacle and sharing it here.

Many, many more obstacles to go… The agents have to love my story and want the rest of it.  Then they have to love the entirety of it. They have to want to work with me. (I'll send chocolate, I promise!)  Then a publisher has to want to buy it.  And even then, once that first book is published, so many more steps to make this career work for me.

And yet, I plan to embrace Brenda's advice to the fullest – celebrate every obstacle.

On the Soundtrack of my Life, today's song is: How I Feel by Martina McBride
