Who is Yvonne Walus?

No, really. Who is Yvonne Walus?

I ask myself that question every time I’m interviewed, every time I curl up with a book instead of doing the laundry, every time my husband calls me a ‘lawyer’ during a marital disagreement.

I look at all my hats in the mirror. Who is the real me?

Am I a Super Mom, capable of balancing a day job, a writing career, domestic chores and the kids’ piano lessons like a circus act? Or am I a clown about to get a cream pie in my face when the juggling stunt turns to custard?

The Mathematician

Remember the 2001 movie “A Beautiful Mind”? Although I do hold a post-grad degree in math, I’m nothing like the mathematician portrayed there. I am sane (I swear!), practical (always), and, alas, not nearly as brilliant.

The Manager

My day job is a business analyst and manager in a small education company. I love helping people and I love knowing that my work helps children overcome their dislike of school.

The Monster

When it’s 8.30 in the morning, I sometimes listen to myself yell, cajole and threaten my children, who still don’t understand the concept of time as a constraint:

“Time to get dressed!”
“Mum, we’re busy!”
“You’re going to be late for school!”… “Hey, can you hear me?”…. “A chocolate for the first one to stand ready by the front door!”… “You guys!!!”… “GET DRESSED NOW!!!”

The Mother

Then I find them, working shoulder to shoulder on their latest painting, or wooden block castle, or zoo enclosure made out of a cardboard box and a toilet paper roll. My beautiful children. My meaning of life.

The Writer

As Yvonne Walus, I write murder mysteries about killing my old boss.
As Eve Summers, I write hot romances.
Pure fantasies, both genres, of course.

I hear you Yvonne. Lately I’ve had to stop for a sec when I sign the master card to make sure I have my “real” last name on it. Thank heavens it’s only the last name because I used my real first name on my books.

And, I often stop and ask myself how in the world did I ever get so busy?

Ha! My last name is real, it’s the first name that’s not. Yet I find myself quicker to answer to Silver than I am to Penny, or PJ.

Why, yes. I do meet myself coming and going. Why do you ask?

Great post Yvonne. A question for the mathematician. Any chance I can get you to balance my checkbook? Just kidding…sort of. *wink*

Very cute, Yvonne. I understand about the balancing act–if you have to get a cream pie in the face, I hope it’s a ‘flavor’ you really really like! Like another contract! LOL

Silver, that would be a “sure!” for the checkbook. I love numbers!

Stacey, your words are pure gold! I’ve just signed another 2 contracts… thank you….

Lavada, yes, how did we get so busy? Have a look at my blog about my latest dream (to be a kept woman, LOL): http://yewalus.blogspot.com/2007/10/kept-woman.html
