My post will, sadly, be very short today. I’m nursing a severe case of strep throat (fun!) and haven’t  had much time for anything other than sleeping and praying before I swallow.
Amongst my rare trips to the computer this week, I found an email from an editor at The Wild Rose Press. She really liked the revisions I made to the WIP I sent and is sending it along to the reading team. So some encouraging news!
My  chapter, LIRW’s, luncheon is a week from today (June 11). I’ll be taking …

First off, congratulations to all the Golden Heart and Rita finalists! I’ll be sure to hoot and holler for you in Nashville.
Alas, I didn’t final in the Golden Heart, but it’s hard to be too bummed when one of your critique partners, not only finaled, but double finaled! I’m truly blessed to have her as a CP, a friend and as a roommate at RWA Nationals again this year.
This was my first time entering the Golden Heart. Of course, I hoped to final, but I didn’t think much of it–until …

Sorry I’m late. Things have not quieted down here since my last post and it occurred to me, sometimes life just won’t play nice.
When I say I’ve done nothing “writing related” since my last entry, I’m not kidding. Not one critique, one revision, or edits of any kind. To say I’m feeling a bit anxious is an understatement.
Right now, I feel like I’m at a stand-still. My business is picking up, which is great considering the tough time we’re all having right now, but my career isn’t getting the attention …

I was watching an episode of Bones last week and one of the characters made an interesting observation, “As in most cases, the book revealed more about the author than his subjects.”
Well that kinda freaked me out lol As my beta reader, does my mom believe I think her to be a controlling witch who won’t let her daughter grow up? Does my sister believe I, personally, had sex in her laundry room? Does my husband think I have the hots for tall men with black hair and blue eyes? …

“Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get up.” ~ Chinese Proverb
Like many of you, I’ve been watching the Vancouver Olympics. Upon my many hours of viewing, one news reporter made an interesting observation. Winter Olympians are different from other athletes. They  have something in their DNA that makes them want to push past their comfort zone and tow the line between insanity and glory.
Writers are the same way. No, of course we don’t risk life and injury from what we do, but I think many of us have …

Just when I thought I had gotten myself together and hunkered down to write. I find a another obstacle.
There is a new evil in our midst and its name is Facebook.
Now, before everyone calls for my head, hear me out
I love Facebook. It has helped me connect with friends from my high school days, my family (and I have a BIG family) and writers from all over. But as wonderful as it is, there is danger lurking.
Being a notorious procrastinator,Facebook is like a drug.  How can I possibly …

Happy New Year everyone! Between the busy season (we own a fireplace and chimney restoration company) the holidays, and, okay let’s be honest, my failing memory, I haven’t posted in a while.  Don’t worry, I’m working on it
With all the upheaval in the publishing industry, it’s hard for an unpublished (or published for that matter) writer to know what to do. Editors are being let go, houses are closing and no one knows what the future holds for the relationship between RWA and Harlequin.
I submitted a manuscript to …

I haven’t been doing much–okay, let’s be honest, I haven’t written a damn thing in nearly two weeks. When coming here, I stared at the screen wondering what the hell I was  going to blog about when I hadn’t done anything writing related in so long? So I asked myself, why? The answer: I haven’t posted anything for critique. No edits. No writing.
I polished a chapter. I think it’s really good. My CPs love my story. So what gives?
Here’s  the problem. I have a fairly new CP who makes my …

Well, I did it. After years of  tossing it back and forth: Should I, shouldn’t I? What’s the point? Is it worth it? I finally decided.
I entered the Golden Heart.
For those of you who may not know, the Golden Heart is the creme de la creme for an unpublished author. It’s the Oscars of RWA , a very prestigious contest in the romance writing community.  Just finaling can get you places (one of my fabulous CPs can attest to that:). So why was I so hesitant?
Is it the money? No. …

I’m feeling much better than I have in a long time and I’m slowly getting back into my writing. But owning a fireplace and chimney restoration company doesn’t bode well for me as the temperatures drop and the workloads rise (we work in the NYC area). In between customer calls, typing contracts (hey, at least I’m writing something and delivering materials to job sites, I still manage to sneak a few hours of writing here and there.
Even with all these distractions, I always seem to do my best …
