Sigh. It’s September, and once again, I am sliding into autumn on fumes. My children are adorable, but they are needy little buggers (don’t tell them I said that). My son spent, I swear, the ENTIRE summer yammering nonstop about Pokemon and Bakugan — silly creatures that evolve (I think) and about which I have NO knowledge and even less interest. It doesn’t help that my husband goes AWOL for the first half of every summer, so I’m pretty much single parenting until after the middle of July.
Usually I survive …

Writing is a solitary business.
How many times have we heard that phrase or something similar? It’s true. But it’s not. If we don’t have a writing partner (and the majority of us don’t), creating the books we create is something we do all by ourselves. Hours at the computer, typing and plotting and editing and polishing. That book’s done…and we do it again.
But there’s a hidden treasure in our solitary profession. Other writers. Last week was the RWA National Conference 2010 in Orlando, FL. Other writers willingly shared their knowledge …

In reading Lavada’s post from last week, it made me think about the days before I succumbed to the computer. Yes, I’m probably dating myself here, but I grew up in the world where computers existed really only on Star Trek and the movie War Games. I recall the first computer we had — it was about as far removed from the modern computer as a diamond is from coal. And then, later on, into my twenties, my mother actually grew to rely on the computer for work long before …

This past weekend, I rented the 2009 version of FAME. I waited this long because I was a huge fan of the original movie and the TV series from the 80s. You know how that goes, you never quite like the remake as much as the original… But I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. And throughout it all, through the struggles and the wins that each student in the movie faced, the movie reminded me of one thing: Remember the joy in doing what you love.
In being a writer, …

Like many of you, I’ve been watching the Vancouver Olympics. Upon my many hours of viewing, one news reporter made an interesting observation. Winter Olympians are different from other athletes. They have something in their DNA that makes them want to push past their comfort zone and tow the line between insanity and glory.
Writers are the same way. No, of course we don’t risk life and injury from what we do, but I think many of us have …

Today we’re pleased to have paranormal author Adrianne Brennan visiting with us. She shares how she gets most of her inspiration and the latest on her recent releases.
Welcome to Happy Endings. Can you tell us a little about your latest release?
Certainly! I’ve had two recently plus a third coming VERY soon, so I’ll talk a bit about those:
Blood of the Dark Moon, a vampire/paranormal erotic romance/dark urban fantasy novel in the Dark Moon series, recently had a print release. It came out in ebook first back in ‘07 with Aphrodite’s …

Since it’s the week of Thanksgiving and I’m still recovering from a neck injury (shh, I’m not supposed to be on my computer at all), I thought I’d focus today’s post on being grateful. Specifically, being grateful for those in the writing industry who have taught me, helped me, or shared their experiences.
In this world, there is always someone who came before you… and you, as a writer, have taken steps before someone else. A friend of mine, a fellow writer still working to be published, told me that I …

I hope you’ll forgive the “easy way out” nature of this morning’s post… I had a complete blank on what to write for today, and since I’m working hard at trying to finish my book and short story by the end of the month, I thought I’d just go for the laughs instead.
So here are a few jokes about writing and writers:
***************************************************
A writer died and was given the option of going to heaven or hell.
She decided to check out each place first. As the writer descended into the fiery pits, …

I probably should’ve titled this post “I Love My Kids—Really!”, but let’s be honest, Toads in the Tub is much more catchy. Plus, it really happens at my house. No, it’s not some strange phenomenon, the toads in my tub are from my kids.
This summer, with my being laid-off, if it kept them busy for awhile and away from my computer chair every five minutes, saying, “Mom, I’m hungry”, or “Mom, I’m bored,” I let them have as many toads hopping around in there as they wanted. Not to mention …
