Special Guest K.M. Daughters

by Jeannie Ruesch

Today, we’re pleased to welcome special guest(s) K.M. Daughters, as they share their latest release, CAPTURING KARMA, Book #3 in the fabulous Sullivan Boys series available at The Wild Rose Press.  This book has received 4 stars from RT Book Reviews and follows in a series of highly reviewed books, AGAINST DOCTOR’S ORDERS and BEYOND THE CODE OF CONDUCT.

K.M. Daughters is the writing team of sisters Kathie and Pat,   On an entirely personal note, these wonderful ladies are friends and clients of mine and are two of the nicest people I know.  It’s a joy to welcome there here today:

Thank you for guest posting with us!

Thank you so much for inviting us!  We write only Happy Endings, so it’s a special pleasure for us to join you.

Can you tell us a little about your latest release?

CAPTURING KARMA is the third book in our Sullivan Boys Romantic Suspense series, published by The Wild Rose Press.  Brian Sullivan, the reputed ladies man of the family tangles with vet, Dr. Matty Connors.  Matty is referred to as THE Matty Connors in law enforcement circles, due to her reputation as an infallible psychic.

Veterinarian Matty Connors’ visions lead her to homicide detective Brian Sullivan once again despite her resolve to remain anonymous the past four years.  Her official work with the police in California resulted in the brutal murder of her fiancé, and since, a recurrent nightmare she barely survives.  Brian, the reputed ladies man of the Sullivan family, has yet to give his heart to a woman until Matty lays claim to it.  His black-and-white approach to solving crimes doesn’t jibe with Matty’s spooky pronouncements or her reputation for alleged infallibility.  A wild goose chase searching for a murder weapon casts doubt on Matty’s “truths” and threatens their smoldering romance.  Is Brian her nightmare slayer and ultimate truth?  When the puzzle pieces fall in place for Brian, will it be too late to save Matty?

We’ve been talking about muses around here lately… Do you have one? If so, introduce us to him, her or it.  How does your muse help you?

Yes, one of the many joys of team writing.  Kathie is Pat’s and Pat is Kathie’s.  Our individual creativity plays off one another.  K.M. Daughters is truly better than the sum of one plus one sister.

What did you want to be (when you grew up) at the age of 6? 13? 20? Now?

A teacher.  A vet.  A businessman.  A best-selling author.

What is your biggest challenge as a writer?

Reaching Readers counts as our biggest challenge.  Since our publisher is a small house with tremendous Ebook strength, but print book published by demand only, our books don’t reside on bricks-and-mortar bookstore shelves. Our publisher produces gorgeous covers that we believe would tantalize bookstore browsers.  It’s quite challenging to be discovered by first-time Readers.

Our characters often have characteristics of ourselves or others in our lives.  What’s one characteristic you gave to a character that you know is either you or someone you know?

Matty’s love of animals mirrors Kathie’s.  Bonnie and Clyde, Matty’s Boston terriers, are patterned after Kathie’s real pets – including the rescued and formerly abused, Bonnie.  Kathie’s now deceased, Trudy, was Bonnie.

If you inherited a time machine, where would your first stop be –in the Past or the future and what would you do when you got there?

We’d like to travel back to the mid-1950s and take our kids with us.  The scene?  A living room wherethe family’s first TV is plugged in, and turned on.  Magic.  And instant appreciation for the amazing advances in the last half of the century.

Have you ever created a villain or killed a character off who is based on someone you know? (We won’t tell.)

Perhaps the legacy-rich, self-obsessed, predatory Wallace in PAST, PRESENT AND FOREVER (Sapphire Blue Publishing), might be based on someone a “Daughter” was involved with.  Neither will tell.

If you could become the heroine in a favorite book you’ve read, which book would it be and how hunky is your hero?

Shanna (Kathleen Woodiwiss).  How is anyone hunkier than Ruark Beauchamp?

If all the romance authors in the world were to work in one building, in cubicles (like a normal job) who would you want sitting on either side of you? (Because you know we can hear everything that goes on…)

Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Christina Dodd.  We’d never stop laughing.

Because this IS Happy Endings, I have to ask: What is your favorite fictional romantic happy endings — either from a book, a movie or TV show. Why that one?

The ending of the movie Dave. Understated, hopeful, passionate but sweet –exactly the fate we’d wish for the President and First Lady.  And the nation.

CAPTURING KARMA EXCERPT

“Hi, Brian,” she responded, tamping down the temptation to hug him hello. “How’s the new baby doing?”

“Great, thanks. How’s that bump on your head?”

Matilda touched an edge of one of the butterfly strips over her eyebrow. “Turning every color of the rainbow, but it’s fine.”

He swiveled his head toward the throaty bark of the wolfhound in the corner of the room, then scanned the other occupants in the lounge: primate, feline, porcine, wolfish and human. “Steve told me you’re a great vet. Looks like you’re pretty swamped here.”

“Shamus and I split the patient load,” she said.

“And Shamus is?”

“My brother. He came for me at the hospital yesterday?”

Brian’s eyes bored into her, a sexy smile twitched the corner of his lips. “Good.”

“And ‘good’ means?”

“The big guy isn’t competition. That’s good.”

“Ah. So we’re clear. What competition would that be?”

The sexy smile twitched again. “For but a smile from sweet Matty,” he lilted in an Irish brogue.

Squelching an impulse to grin, she molded her face serious and parroted a brogue, “Ah but woe to the knave who plies smiles with an untrue heart.”

She grinned now. “What can I do for you, Brian? Did you get an estimate to repair your car?”

“It’s about that letter you brought me. It’s related to a case. We need your help.”

Of course. “I gave you the letter. You know as much as I do.” Her heart hammered, nothing to do with the pulse acceleration from earlier flirtation. I can’t go further with this case. No matter what, I have to stay anonymous.

Good morning Pat and Kathie! I’m so excited you are here today! 🙂 And wow, thank you for the wonderful comments — I wouldn’t be anywhere without the terrific clients I have who make my work so enjoyable. So Thank YOU! 🙂

And by the way, there is no one hunkier than Ruark…hmm, except maybe Roarke from JD Robb’s series. Something in the name, apparently! 🙂

And I’m LOL at your character who just MIGHT resemble someone you know… I have a character named after a person in my past that does not bode happy memories in a new WIP. It’s kind of fun. LOL

You’ll have to make sure you “fix” that “will remain nameless” character in the end! LOL. Actually, another secret to divulge – we do occasionally “kill” off characters who just might be named after someone or other we know.
