Up Ahead in 2010

by Jeannie Ruesch

It’s hard to believe that another year has almost passed.Β  Where did 2009 go? It’s been a great year for me in so many ways — it’s the year my first book got published. It’s the year that this blog became a community — for which I’m tremendously grateful.

It’s also a year that didn’t get me quite as far on my new projects as I’d hoped, but I’m looking forward to 2010 being a great year for writing.Β  I plan to finish my book #2 in the Willoughby Series and the new historical romance that’s mulling about in my head. Β  What about you?Β  What do you foresee in your new year? What projects do you want to complete?

And that brings me to the point of this post… in the coming 2010, I’d like to focus the blog posts on what YOU want to read about.Β  So tell me, what would you find of most interest or most useful?Β  Marketing Tips, Author Interviews,Β  indepth book discussions,Β  topics on craft, characterization and story? Something else?

This is your chance to tell us what you need more of.

Jeannie, I agree, where’d the year go? My plan for 2010 is to submit my just completed ST (it will be by end of Dec.) to agents and NY pubs, polish 2 completed works and submit to TWRP, and begin/finish at least one other new book, maybe 2 depending on the length of the first and how much I’m working the ‘day’ job. Hopefully in there, I’ll be editing another book I’m waiting to hear if it will be contracted.

I don’t get over here every day to read, but when ever I can, I’ve enjoyed the blogs all the authors post. Marketing Tips is a great idea, maybe even some industry news posts, or agent info.

It’s been an up and down year for me too. Health issues, something I’ve been fortunate not to have experienced before saw me in emergency as a patient for the first time in my life and a major 4 hours of surgery on an unrelated issue was scary. On the up side I had four books published, 2 new ones and 2 re-releases.

Happy Endings has been my first experience,( outside of an occasional guest spot), with blogging. I struggle with marketing and motivation so those tips and articles are something I find beneficial.

I try to drop into Happy Endings each morning and support the community but lately I’ve had to work around edits so have been late commenting. It looks like the first part of 2010 will be off as we’re again heading for a month in Arizona.

Thanks for all the work you do to keep our community healthy Jeannie.

HI Jeannie!

Don’t fret, my friend! I know 2010 is going to be your year for tons of success. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I do have complete faith in YOU! I’ll be rooting for you, that’s for sure. πŸ™‚

I’m hoping 2010 is the year I finish my MS and get it submitted. I’d love to join the ranks of all my pubbed friends. 2009 was kind of a sucky year for me, so I’m hoping next year will make up for my bad luck. I’m gonna keep everything crossed!

I’d love to see articles on writing processes, tips for balancing writing and kids, and some advice on querying/submitting. Thanks for all that you do, Jeannie! This newbie appreciates your efforts 100%!

Hi Sarah — Thanks for the reply! 2009 seemed to be tough for a lot of people I know. Good to know we’re in such good company. πŸ™‚

Thanks for letting me know what you’d like to see. I’m really going to try to bring in some new topics and helpful guests this year… and I’m excited. In January, I’ve got Jimmy Thomas coming to the blog…. the romance cover model! http://www.jimmythomas.com/ I’m so excited about that! LOL

Ok, “How to get your book into the New York Times Top Ten” would be a useful post to read as soon as possible in 2010, LOL. Though perhaps a prequel to that could be “How to get a Top New York Publisher to publish your book”?

Also, any marketing tips for fiction books that really, really translate into sales.

And finally, a regular monthly (or weekly) blog on how to slow down time so that 2010 doesn’t feel as short as 2009???
