Author Cindy Green on Her Favorite Happy Ending

by Jeannie Ruesch

I'm thrilled to kick off a new regular column on this blog: Favorite Happy Endings.  I figure it's appropriate considering the title of my blog.  This feature will interview an author, a writer, a reader or just one of my favorite people, hopefully every Friday, and see what makes a happy ending their favorite… Why do we love certain stories? What sets them apart from others?

And be sure to check back and add your comments, I'll be giving away those favorite books and other goodies now and then to those who comment!

Today's kick off features author Cindy Green, who dishes on her favorite happy ending.

Persuason by Jane Austen

What is your all time favorite happy ending from a book?

Persuasion by Jane Austen

What makes you love it so much?

This is a second chances love story which is my very favorite kind of romance. The entire book these two characters are still in love with each other and the tension continues to build and build that they should be together. It is so romantic when the hero, Captain Wentworth, writes a letter to his lady love, Anne Elliot. "I must speak to you by such mans as are within my reach.  You pierce my soul.  I am half agony, half hope.  Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone forever."  It just gives me chills every time.

What stays with you about the story and/or the characters?

Captain Wentworth is my favorite Austen hero. He is dashing, handsome, and newly wealthy. He also has a pleasing personality and an interesting intelligence. He is in every way Anne’s equal. He understands her like one else in her life does. What stays with me about both Wentworth and Anne is that even after eight years they are still so very much in love with each other. It wasn’t a passing fancy built on the passions of youth. It was real, true, and lasting. I think we all want that.
