Furniture That Speaks (And not in that voices-in-your-head kind of way)

by Jeannie Ruesch

In search of great blog posts ideas, I found this link with 600…yes, you read that right, 600 blog post ideas. (, you’re coming. You just wait.)   In case you ever thought about making a list post of ideas, this post is the one that would put an L to its forehead and call you a loser.  Because 600… Wow.

But… back to the topic at hand. Because I’m contrary, I started at the bottom.  And realized that the COMMENTS also had dozens and dozens of fantastic ideas.

So I plucked one out to choose as my topic for today.  I might be so inclined to do this every so often. 🙂

The topic:

Are there any furnishings or decorative items in your home that have intense personal relevance? Tell us about them.

Why yes, Julie Schwartz Haley of CoffeeJitters.net (and with the word coffee in her blog title? How am I not going to visit that?) there are just such items in my home.

I have a set of Doulton Dolls figurines – 6 in total.  These are figurines created by the Royal Doulton company started in 1815 (as Doulton Pottery).

5 of these came from my grandmother, who had a full set of almost 12  I believe.  They were handed out to my mother and my aunts, and when my mother passed away, I inherited the dolls.

Because I love them so much, my husband added to my collection with one of my own:

These dolls have been in my family as long as I can remember.  I have the clear picture in my head of my grandparent’s living room in their beautiful house.  Along with the rock fireplace, my grandfather’s big comfy chair, the front living room was where the Dalton Dolls lived.  They had a different cabinet holding them, but I remember seeing them every time we visited.  Thinking how beautiful they were.

And now, they are here in my home.

Would you like to carry on the discussion? What is a piece of furniture or item in your house that has special meaning to you?
