The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team

by Jeannie Ruesch

If you’ve read my bio, you’ll know that writing was my second calling. My first: Being a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. Now, mind you — I was six when I had this goal and I had just watched the Love Boat special with the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and all their fabulous Farrah Fawcett hair. And when the Made-for-TV movie came out about the ? I was in heaven. Writing my first story did cement my future pathway to becoming an author, but I have always held a soft spot in my heart for the DCC.

So one of the shows I love to watch now should be no surprise: , the show that goes into Training camp, behind the scenes (and who doesn’t love a good behind the scenes view) into what it takes to make the team of the world’s most renowned, beloved cheerleading squad. I love this show. I enjoy seeing the dancers (because as it turns out, this was so not a strength of mine. My career detour into writing proved very fortuitous.)

And I have to admit it, I’m a sucker for a good makeover and there is always at least one Training Camp candidate who is prime for an improved look– that really cute girl hiding behind a bad haircut and/or color and you just want to see her true self shine through. I look forward to the makeover episode each season — they just had that in Episode 4. And yup, there was one girl who got a much better hair color than she walked in with! She looked gorgeous. I love that!

If you haven’t watched an episode of this show, you should. I love watching the progress of how hard they work to get where they want to be, and see those who achieve it. I also appreciate how often the girls who get eliminated return to meet their goals. It’s truly inspiring how they pursue their dreams.

And since one of my guilty pleasure TV shows is the Bachelor series, having former contestant Melissa Rycroft on the show just makes it even more interesting for me.

I don’t have CMT since we’re doing our best to eliminate cable, but through Amazon, you can buy a season pass and watch as the shows air. Watch it. Check it out. You’ll be surprised at how inspiring you may find it.
