Liz vs. Sam Round 4657.245

by Jeannie Ruesch

Though it’s been building for months with this Jakeson story to be a Liz vs Sam showdown on General Hospital,  the Liz vs. Sam wars have already begun in FULL force.  Every board, timeline that I’ve visited is the same.  SamFFs hating on Liz. LizFFs hating on Sam.   Before I’d even watched yesterday’s show (7/29) where Sam fills Patrick in on what’s bothering her and why she feels that Liz may still have some resentment towards her, the fans were dividing into battle stances already.

The Battle Stances

Sam was beyond awful for telling Patrick what Liz did with the DNA switch and having the audacity not to fess up at that time about what specifically she had done to keep Jason.

Liz is completely nonredeemable and should have her children yanked from her (you know because her misdeeds are so much worse than the other stellar parents on this show) and drawn and quartered for keeping Jason’s identify a secret (and for some non-fans, being a character who still exists).

I have to admit that I’m truly disappointed in the direction this story has taken.  I can handle Liz getting down in the dirt.  She’s done it before.  So as much as I’d like to say it’s not in her character, it is.  Just as much as it’s within Sam’s character to play dirty.  They’ve both done it.  In fact, in a lot of ways, these two ladies are two sides of the same coin.  They are not that different. At all.  Perhaps that’s why the fans hate the flip side of that coin so much?  Because often times, Sam and Liz are a mirror to each other’s worst and best sides.  It’s often that they are played as one being the villain, one being the victim.

I wish this story had gone an unexpected route, found a way to turn this “rivalry” on its end by making NO ONE a villain and NO ONE a victim.  There was so much soapy goodness to be found on this storyline if Jake/Liz and Patrick/Sam just fell in love.  Shocking, I know.  But as their friendship tentatively grew, before Liz discovered the truth about Jason, they had the potential to blow all of this out of the water WITHOUT need for big, huge twirling-mustache villains in this.

What do you think about the direction of the story?
