An agent bite! (Writing Update)

by Jeannie Ruesch

Current status of Something About Her: Queries sent: 9 Rejections: 0 (but give it time, I'm sure) Bites: 1!!!! Yay!!! One agent said she would be honored to take a further look at my work, and of course, I was honored (elated, over-the-moon, pick an adjective) to send it to her.  I sent out my synopsis and first three chapters last week.  Now if I can only stop checking my email twenty times a day…

In other news on the writing front: I attended a workshop given by Margie Lawson (http://www.margielawson.com) yesterday on Powering Emotions and Deep Editing. It was such a fabulous class!  My weakest part, I believe, in my writing is in writing nonverbal communication in a non-cliche, fresh way.  She gave us so many great examples.  She helped us understand the difference between visceral emotional responses and "choreography." I've already applied it to a scene in Something About Her that I knew immediately lacked the visceral physical response it deserved.  It reads much better, the emotion is stronger and I did not once need to use the phrase "pain clenched her heart." All in all, a good writing day!
